Sheltering in Studio
Productivity
I made a decision, as soon as Texans were instructed due to Covid19, to only go places that were essential, that I wasn’t going to look back on the time, however long it ends up being, as a total Netflix Slobfest. My husband is still working, my sons are still working, my granddaughter is still working…so I am, too! While it’s a difficult time around the world, let’s face it, we fantasize about having time to do whatever we want, and it seems the only time that that happens is when we are sick and we Sure aren’t feeling like we want to work, then. So, I pushed my sleeves up and got busy. To date, I have created 4 large (for me) works, a small barnyard of ceramic hanging pieces and 70 ceramic jewelry pins. Yesterday, I reorganized my home studio. I’ve also studied our plans and organized my thoughts for a likely addition on our home. For me, that’s a pretty good list for three weeks. I’ve shopped for my 91 year old mother and enjoyed texting and phoning people, that are important to me, including my 10 year old daughter, Katherine Anne. She is now to the place, where her amazing parents have set her up to text with her two sets of grandparents. There is life Before Grandchildren, and there is Amazing Life WITH Grandchildren. Mine has lived a distance away, so I’ve missed so many of the day to day details of her life. To get a little note/text from her during the day and stop WHATEVER I’m doing just to see where it takes us, is the Best. THE. BEST! I’m also the aunt, that enjoys conjuring up silly texting games for all ages. That also has been LOTS of fun while everyone is home from work and school.
I have to be honest. I think filling up our days is always smart. I don’t mean useless busyness. Filling up a day could be reading an impossible to put down book. Who doesn’t love doing that? People that I’ve had contact with that are feeling accomplished, seem to being doing the best emotionally. Well, there are probably Other reasons for that as well, but isn’t it wonderful to surround yourself with people that are filled with Hope and Joy, regardless of life’s trials.
This one surprised me…
One night this week, I found that I was a little restless during my sleep and looking back, this was why. I went with my husband to eat some ice cream next to a beautiful nearby creek. The town has built a wonderful path next to the creek. There are benches to sit on or you can of course, walk or bike next to the creek. As I approached the creek, there was a stunning White Egret frozen and looking into the water. Of course, she was working on her next meal, but maybe because of her focus, I was able to keep snapping pics with my phone, as I got closer and closer to her. My goal was to get close enough, to get her full body in reflection in the water. Bingo! I was successful! I then was even able to get close enough to get a beautiful image of her fluffy tail feathers. Why am I telling you this? Because, during my restless sleep, I was repeatedly working out an art piece that would feature…the Egret! Nice, right? Not a nightmare, but rather a beauty dream! I couldn’t wait to get up the next morning and revisit the images that I had taken. While editing the photo on my Photoshop CC, I was able to flip one of the images, which will help me as I draw/paint/collage, a pair of art pieces. Isn’t it great to know that our Creativity never sleeps…but maybe is even heightened, as we are free from the awake time clutter. I know that I wake up many mornings, with visions of entire pieces still fresh in my head, and sometimes, I’m even disciplined enough to draw them out so that I don’t forget them! Do you do that with what you Creatively enjoy doing? Do you wake with an idea for a song, or poem, or prose that is mysteriously floating around in your head at night or in your waking subconscious? I think that the more that we develop, practice, hone our gifts, the stronger they become! I’ll keep you posted on what develops with this beautiful Egret”y”moment in my life!
What’s Nourishing Me?
Adele Sypestyne! I have recently subscribed to her membership and gobbled up every video that she has posted. I love her light hearted, but very knowledgable ability. Take a look and see if it’s a fit for You. It’s affordable…less than a workshop and You can do it in your jammies! I’m hooked! (Sorry…I misspelled her name above, but I can’t correct it there since its embedded in a link to her website… but, it’s correct in the caption under her photo…Sorry, Adele…my maiden name was a doozie, so I understand! : )
What Else is Nourishing me? I’m finding that I can’t get enough fragrance in my life! Odd, right? But, my Antique Roses are blooming and I can smell them across the lawn. In my studio, I’m enjoying candles and my diffuser is running constantly. Is our sense of Smell our most neglected? Possibly, but thats very Fixable! Fresh Flowers, Diffusers, Essential Oils and Wonderful Candles are everywhere! What are Your favorite fragrances?
Finally, I’ve been appreciating my feline Keaton much more, lately. Some of You know, that after 9 years, I will be rehoming her very soon, because of some upcoming changes in our life. She simply has to go. I’ve never had to rehome a domesticated, before. Horses, yes, and it just about killed me Every Time. The Wonderful news, is that she will be going to live with an amazing family that we love very much. They have a farm/ranch with an animal for every letter in the alphabet and a pretty sweet little girl, that will be a wonderful playmate, for many years. Keaton is one of those animals thats not so into photography, but I’ve been pretty determined and these images will be with me forever!
