Get Outta Town

Redstone, Colorado, formerly called…Heaven

Those of You who have followed me at all, know that my husband and I were long ago seduced by the Colorado Rockie Mountains. “lets figure out a way to live here”, we dreamed.

Well, dreams do come true and to be honest, every time we set foot into our newish Colorado home, it still feels oddly dreamlike. I just haven’t been able to put my finger on it, but it just doesnt feel real, and I have to say, I love that. Life, good and bad, can get away from you and just become too familiar. I hope that that never happens in Redstone.

So, we fly to Denver, fly to Aspen (toss your old credit card if it doesn’t give you air miles…best advice You’ll ever receive) drive to Redstone. I love you Carbondale, but, after Carbondale, a full on HeavenfullofAngels start singing in our back seat, and after that, its just Euphoric. Yes, its true. Like Swiss Alps level, Euphoric.

Larry starts looking left, checking the water level and clarity for the potential of fly fishing the Crystal River which runs alongside the road and I’m full on Chorusing with those Angels from the Views! You think I’m exaggerating. Im not. OK. Enough. I’ve said alllll of this before.

Trips for me to Colorado, it’s true, are too much about work. It’s a newly remodeled home, and I have 3 to 4 at the most short trips out annually, until husband retires, and I’ve got to get it finished, Some day. The water will be stinky if the hot water heater isn’t drained first, the dishwasher might not work and there are soooo many things to do. Kind of like at home !

My practical side says, Buy new bedspreads. My creative side that always wins says, Nope, You’re Making them. It will be fun! So, I ship a lot of things out over the year and fabric from San Antonio was no exception. 7th largest city in the US, we have Stuff in SA. Teeeeeeeeny tiny mountain town in Colorado. No Stuff.

Shopping begets buying… and then, shipping.
My new studio has a great floor space for laying out fabrics.
So, I just mixed around the different fabrics in blocks, for the tops of the spreads.
I’ve been using these same colors for 44 years. I think that means that I like them 😉
So, I ordered king flat sheets and I’ll sew them under the tops, next trip and voila! Bedspreads! I’ll use these bedspreads until I die. I’m like that.
It was so cold out, that I worked with the fire right next to me, while it was burning hot back home, in San Antonio.

We’ve been lightening things up by removing the curtains left by the seller. Out with the old, in with the new.

Ahhh, much better.
For a little work break, I so enjoy feeding the hummingbirds. The hummers in Colorado are loud. They have a funny noise that we don’t hear from our Texas birds. These poor guys arrived probably on time, but, it has just kept being cold and even snowy, so there are NO FLOWERS for them to nourish themselves. I couldn’t even get the feeder hung, before they were drinking. Sometimes I had so many around me, that I couldn’t count them. They buzzed so close that I could feel the air pushed by their wings. They were HUNGRY!

While out and about, we ALWAYS make a stop at Habitat for Humanity, in Glenwood Springs. We have literally furnished our home by sending back the owners furnishings and replacing them with Beautiful vintage finds. I love finding vintage dishes for our collection. Check these out…again, I’ve used these colors for decades.

The Homer Laughlin bowls came from Habitat and Tiffany in Redstone, and the mid century glasses were my friend Patsy Wrights firecracker mothers named, Rose. Little by little, it’s feeling more like Home.

We are stone geeks. We can’t resist their beauty. Soon, every surface in the house will be covered by them!

As we continue working on the inside, there are still a few finishing touches on the outside. We found these crazy perfect Corbels, at Tiffany, in Redstone, for the front porch. I’m not sure how many times we’ve been there. It’s a sure thing that you will fill your trunk with finds, if you aren’t careful!

They were part of the underside of a turn of the last century table.
They need some touching up here and there, but as you can see, they look like they were made for this porch post. Perfect at 17′ x24″.

Its true. I always work too much when we go, but we always find time for hiking the Placita trail, just around a short bend in the river and you are there. Gaze up over our home towards the tiny mining town of Marble, and you will see this and if you are attentive, you will start to hear those angel voices again…I Am Attentive.

God is so Good. So Amazing. So Creative. So Generous.

There isn’t ever anything that we can do to deserve this, but you know, He doesn’t give it to us because we DO Anything. He gives it to us because He Loves Us!

I’m happy that You stopped by for a visit and that I could share what I love with You. I know that You have Your own special places that You love. The World is full of them. Sooo many of them.
